Kibogora Hospital lies on the Western coast of Rwanda on the shores of Lake Kivu. It serves a population of 250,000 people, most of which make the equivalent of $3 US per day. This mission hospital was founded in the 1940s by the Free Methodist Church and continues today to be an example of excellence for health and care.
This rural hospital has 269 beds, offering surgical, general medical, paediatric, maternity and neonatal services, with an extremely busy outpatient department. The support facilities include X- ray. laboratory, HIV/Aids testing, treatment facilities, dentistry, opthalmology, physiotherapy and family planning clinics.
In 1994, Rwanda suffered the horrific events of the genocide, where in a matter of months one million Rwandans were killed and massacred due to generations of inter-tribal hatred and conflict. Since then, there has been incredible steps towards peace and reconciliation.
Building upon the previous efforts of other missionaries, Kibogora Hospital we have helped to update 3 dental operatories to provide advanced surgical care, endodontic therapy and restorative treatment. Instead of travelling to the capital 4-5 hours away patients are able to receive at Kibogora Hospital the loving quality care needed in the name of Jesus Christ.
Having the only digital panoramic x-ray in the country and digital sensors, we are now able to diagnose and treat disease to improve the quality and standard of care.
Training of local dental therapists is paramount to the improvement of dentistry in this country.
With the increasing rate of childhood decay, we are now able to perform full treatment under general sedation.
